This is a neat article about women who are paranormal investigators. Though the article isn't written as well as I would like, it's cute.

I belong to a paranormal group. My forte is spiritual photography and research. I think the article was a little vague, but certainly readable.

I think they should have showed the article's author a little more evidence than that. That might've helped clear up the distance the writer has from his topic.

I think it's a lot like everything else in horror. Men still seem to have the dominant position, even in paranormal investigation. That sucks.

I do love some photographic evidence of ghosts. FREAKS me out and I like getting scared.

But yes, it's overwhelmingly male except for the "pyschic" sterotype - you know, the medium/psychic who is a woman because she's so emotional anyway that she can feel stuff all over a haunted place.

Hi!

Actually, I have a few on my MySpace account in my albums. You can look at it:

http://www.myspace.com/wickedambition

Just hit "view my pics." It isn't comprehensive, I just add a few at a time, but it's more than I have anywhere else online.

I dunno, it wasn't a horrid article. Pretty basic and bare bones. What annoys me is the ambiance they tried to create... LAMO Dark and spooky which only registered as light and fluffy.

A friend of mine goes everywhere on the "ghost walk" tours. She went to Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA to try them out. She reported it was horrible. You can't actually get a feel for anything and the tour guide has a tendency to both over-talk and over-emphasize with the cheesy sound effects while they talk. She said that one tour guide actually warbled their voice while speaking.

It made me think of Spongebob's Flying Dutchman and his "ghostly ghost ship."

I want to hit Waverley Sanatorium in KY so bad, but I think they're getting ready to turn it into some touristy-crap. Typical. A good abandoned building and they just HAVE to tear it down or ruin it in other ways. The paranormal group I'm in wanted to stay there for a night and found a waiting list of at least 12 months for paranormal groups. They registered, but I haven't heard an update.

The most gorgeous and creepiest building in my area, a hospital from the 1920s (yes, Art Deco as H*ll), is getting ready for tea with the demolition ball. I am so mad over that. Naturally, they want to raze it. They just can't actually save it and use it for something. Office space would be better than obliteration. It is so beautiful. It's astounding, I mean for this region. It has the Deco columns, corner caps, everything. Ugh. Sort of makes you want to chain yourself to the column in protest.

That's so sad about the art deco building.... Why can't they, at the very least, refurbish the interior and then sell expensive condos or something? That's what they do here in LA. They take every house they can get their hands on, or large building, and chop the interior into pieces and sell condos. Soon it'll be like living in Manhattan, and when you walk into a brownstone apt. building it'll blow your mind that it was once a single family residence and not just s eries of cubicles.

there is a "haunted art deco building in a rich old neighborhood in Los Angeles that I LOVE walking by. It is now an apartment building.

Never been inside, but it is supposedly haunted.

Waverly has already become touristy. It's insane. I have this thing about "paying" to investigate a place. The only place i'd pay to go to would be The Myrtles. But you know it's a B&B so you'd be paying for the room basically. Oh and Lizzy Borden's house and the Queen Mary. But old, dark buildings that charge $100 more a pop, no thats not for me.

It's already happened at Waverley? Sheesh.

I guess we're just going to have to hit the wilderness areas and find authentic abandoned properties to snoop around it.

Then, when you find something, you'll have to keep all info private or it will start a trend and, well, touristy-crap will happen.

Everyone wants a profit, I guess.

Hey!

Thanks. Actually, I'm working on a site where I'll be featuring information on women in horror. I was desperately trying to find resources (unbelievably few and far between) when I happened upon the forum.

I think it's awesome. There's nothing like this anywhere else that I've found. Whew-hoo!

Hmmm maybe instead of re-inventing the wheel you should talk to Heidi and see if she has a spot for you on her staff... Just a thought since Heidi does a bang up job with Pretty-Scary Women in Horror by Women in Horror:)

Lol. Actually, we're talking now.

I don't know if it'll draw *tons* of traffic or anything, but it's just pathetic that women don't have more than that. I write horror and look at mystery. There's organizations like Sisters in Crime just for them. That's just one group, too.

What do women have? The Horror Writers' Association is one, but it's open to all, and hasn't really gotten any emphasis on female writers.

The more the merrier at this point...lol.

Not only older viewers, but where are the women? I wrote about this for an upcoming Beyond the Dial, but there is a sad lack of women not only on paranormal tv, but on History Channel and other such cable networks. History Channel seems to be the worst though, their programming seem to be directly aimed at only attracting men -- Ice Road Truckers and Axe Men are good examples. I have noticed a woman on Ice Road Truckers lately and I hope they start adding more women to their shows. Just out of curiosity -- wouldn't even the men like to see more women on paranormal tv shows?

They seem to have a few, but all they do is scream and cry because they are so scared. I can't even watch Ghosthunters anymore because of the scripted sniveling ans screeching.

Destination Truth has some decent female investigators, too.

Oh sweet baby jesus.

Kris. From Ghosthunters. She's the most pathetic thing I've ever seen, always hamming it up for the camera and wearing the least clothing possible while everyone else is bundled up. Hope she gets frostbite.

I remember one episode where she was in a lighthouse with some other random girl. She asked for knocking, it knocked. She asked again, another knock and she squealed like a pig. Feh.

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud but paranormal TV shows really have only taken off in the last few years or so and I'm pretty sure TV execs are still waiting to see if this is just a trend or if they can bank money on it long term, meaning men of paranormal are just gaining their footing with mainstream audiences. We won't see women heading up their own shows just yet. With the continued success of Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures and others, I think they've proven people want to see these types of shows so studios, TV producers, etc., are willing to take more "risks" on paranormal shows. Just my one and half cents.

My issue with the latest ghost hunting shows are they are so obviously scripted. When Ghosthunters first came on, it had a more natural feel to it. Lately, though, those two tattooed idiots have turned it into a soap opera.

Yeah. Waiting around for ghosts though... I suppose they need to fill in the time somehow. I actually like Ghost Hunters International more cuz they go to cooler places. I stopped watching Ghost Adventures completely cuz it felt totally fake.

I get sick of hearing 'off camera' noises and peope seeing things when the camera is pointed in the opposite direction.

Yup.

I saw an episode of Destination Truth where they went to a crazy doll island in south America, and there was this one scene where a they were examining this wall fbroken dolls all strung up, and one of the dolls moved it's eyes. Faked or not, that was awesome.

I've been contacted two times (two separate years) to be on an all woman paranormal team for TV. One year it was during the writers strike and as soon as that ended the show was scrapped. This second time, I don't know what happened. For all I know there IS a team out there and it just hasn't hit the airwaves. I can tell you that more then likely the first all women show will be a group of women that are sexy but also kick butt at the same time. The "sexy" requirement is a must. There will be no fat joe's like this recent "Extreme Paranormal" fiasco that will be allowed on this team (or Josephine as the case may be). At any rate, I do know that The League of Extraordinary Paranormal Women/Parawomen Radio has been supporting ALL women and helping them with a voice for 3 years. Woot!

oh oh oh!! Ghosties and bogies and spirits OH MY!
Loving it, I am going to Edinbugrgh on the 20th of November to 'Ghost walk' the underground streets at Mary Kings Close.
It is reputedly haunted but it certainly a place of great historical interest and says an awful
lot about how people of low stature and poor health were treated.
I will be wearing my jack Skellington hat and wearing a 'kick me' sign to hopefully
entice some disgruntled spirit to make 'contact'.

ps: if said 'contact' occurs I fully expect to acheive speeds greater than I had ever personally
anticipated possible for my little blonde frame...
