R.I.P. Brittany Murphy

in Dead LineActress Brittany Murphy died Sunday morning in Los Angeles, California of 'cardiac arrest', but no one is clear why. Most suspect drug abuse. The 32-year-old star of horror films like Dead Line, Something Wicked, and the low-budget Aslum disaster flick Megafault was found unconscious in the shower by her mother.

No one can deny that since her 1995 role as a cute brunette in the teen comedy Clueless, her appearance drastically changed to a stick-thin blond with a vacant stare...

"She seemed to go through a change on Clueless," Clueless director Amy Heckerling told And the Winner Is... on Sunday. "Maybe she felt like she was not the, like, skinny, pretty girl, you know? And then the next few movies she was, you know, thinner, blonde ... and going out with Ashton Kutcher suddenly got more into that whole glamorous scene. I think she felt the pressure to become a different sort of commodity to survive in show business, and I think it was awful."

However, her career skyrocketed with major roles in movies like 8 Mile and Don't Say A Word. Then, around 2005, it took a major downturn, and none of her fans knew why. The last few years, Murphy was relegated to playing cliche scientist roles in ghost stories and b-movies, all the while bein steered by new husband Simon Monjack, who just a few weeks before her death had been arrested at Los Angeles International Airport for drug posession. Monjack and Murphy were on their way home from the set of The Caller, a new horror film Murphy had just been fired from.(Murphy's rep has denied that she was fired.) However, Murphy was immediately replaced by Rachel LaFevre and shooting went on as scheduled.

Someone who worked with Murphy recently on the Darin Scott horror film Something Wicked, shot in Oregon, told The Wrap that Murphy was barely able to shoot her scenes and would lose her focus in mid-sentence during a take.

“Her husband was her handler, he shuttled her around. She was barely there,” said an individual with knowledge of the production, referring to Murphy’s husband and manager, Simon Monjack. “She’d go in and out of consciousness in the middle of takes.”

The individual said Murphy’s inability to stay fully conscious caused producers to rewrite her character, a therapist to the two main characters, and her scenes. He said colleagues on the set had presumed she used prescription drugs.

Back in 2005, Murphy publicly denied rumors of cocaine use, saying, "Just for the record I have never tried it in my entire life, I've never even seen it, and I don't leave the house too much, except to go to work."

Another tragic loss in Hollywood of a beautiful young woman. So sorry, Brittany.

Very sad. It does sound like

Very sad. It does sound like drug use. Cardiac arrest just doesn't routinely hit people so young :\

I beg to differ ...

I beg to differ about her being too young to have cardiac arrest. It is reported she had a heart condition from a young age, if she was prescribed meds that could have had an adverse effect on her heart w/out the doc having her previous knowledge of her heart condition it IS very possible for someone so young to have cardiac arrest.

R.I.P. Brittany Murphy - Thank you for sharing you with the world.

Yes, possible. But it is very unusual, especially outside of heavy drug use.

It's very sad.

Drugs Shmugs

Could be drugs, but it could also be Hollywood's OTHER best friend, Anorexia. Anorexia causes cardiac arrest in the final stages, can make people listless and prone to collapsing, and makes (of course) the victim thin thin thin/hollow eyed/listless.

I think I see ur point...

I noticed between 2001-2006 Brit's career took off and she became an A-List actress, then staring in her own box office films. After or during 2007 she was surrounded with scandal after scandal and saw less of her. But reading your article gives me an idea of what lead to her death and what maybe caused it.

During 2007-2009 I noticed she lost a lot of weight and constantly changed her appearance. In some of her earlier pictures, she looked thin, pale and spaced out! Also, she started doing low budget films such as # Across the Hall (2009) .... June # Tribute (2009) (TV) ..MegaFault(TV)

I thought that was very strange that she was doing Bullshit movies like that? Unusually for an actress of her stature, But reading your article as well as other Hollywood reports I see why her career was going down the tubes. During 2007-2009 she was the talk of too many allegations and rumors such as drugs, diva behavior, and her shady hubby. Believe me, rumors like that spreads around Hollywood and into the ears of studio executives and producers.

Sources say, Brit became increasingly worried about career and that she was no longer A-List. Hearing that probably put Brit went into panic mode, so she started losing weight, changing her appearance. Someone in her circle should of guided her.

Hollywood is rough, tough, and sexist towards women!

I was watching TV a couple of days after she passed, and many Hollywood sources said, that her life style and husband was killing her career. Her friends tried to warn her about her husband, but she would not listen. I truly believe had she not married that Simon and had people forcefully looking out for her, she would still be here.

I was watching Don't Say A Word the other day. Brit was amazing in that film.

Her passing is a Hollywood tragedy, she was truly talented and seemed like a good person. But I don't care what anyone says dying at 32 is not normal, but I hope she's at peace now...
