Jessica Manafort to direct 'Thelma and Louise' remake called 'Cowgirl Bandits'. Sadly.

I hope she's shooting Leighton MeesterThe bland and forgettable, but completely typical 'young woman' Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and the far more interesting Amber Heard (All The Boys Love Mandy Lane) are set to star in a remake of the feminist (actually, anti-feminist) 1991 movie Thelma And Louise which starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis as two out-of-their-effing-minds women on the run from the law because evil men had opressed them.

But hold on. Jessica Manafort is attached to direct. But hold on again. It will be called Cowgirl Bandits. Whose effing name is 'Leighton', anyway? I know what this is. This is a younger, hipper version of the film, because who wants to look at women over 30? Not men, that's who not!...

Heard starred in Manafort's 2007 comedy Remember the Daze, which Manafort also wrote, revolved around the relationship dynamics of a group of suburban teens on the last day of school in 1999. Yay women director. Yawn subject matter.

Gah! You've got to be effing

Gah! You've got to be effing kidding me.

Heidi, would love to hear your opinion on why Thelma and Louise is antifeminist. It's interesting, it's a film I've always overlooked...don't own it, never remember to put it on any of my fav lists. I guess I always felt like I was supposed to feel empowered by it and love it, but never did...

I think the fact that the two

I think the fact that the two women drive over a cliff at the end, and that they find that the only way to get ahead in the world is to shoot people and then Drive off a Cliff is really awful and very grim.

I mean, couldn't they have prosecuted the rapist, then both went back to school, started a law firm to protect other women who have suffered violence, and then contributed to a local battered women's shelter with their earnings?

Then found men who treated them well and had great equal-status relationships? To me, That's feminism. Resorting to desperate violent acts and then offing yourself is a commentary on how bad and hopeless life is for women, and that there's no way out.

Yay, Heidi. Leighton

Yay, Heidi.

Leighton Meester...seriously. I bet she did that fake name thing where they choose the street they lived on as a child and then the name of their first pet. That's just a horrible name. I can't say 'meester' without a fake, stereotyped Spanish accent.
