Indie filmmaker Christine Parker, who gave us the enjoyable low budget horror romp The Forever Dead, brings us this fun zombie western about a feud between two brothers in an 1800s North Carolina town.

One of the brothers invents a special elixir that he tells folks will help cure all of life’s problems. Only problem is the elixir appears to be a zombie-making potion that turns the townsfolk into rampaging, flesh hungry zombies. All hell breaks loose as the zombies seize a church, a girl has one of her boobs ripped off, zombies are shot at, and an infected man attacks gets up and attacks folks in a saloon.

A Fistful of BrainsFistful of Brains is a gory, head exploding, gut munching thrill ride that should satisfy folks who enjoyed movies like Undead or Alive and The Quick and the Undead.

Also featured in the film are Pretty-Scary editor-in-chief Heidi Martinuzzi and an appearance by Redneck Zombies director Pericles Lewnes.

The shoestring budget gore, hilarious dialogue, and inventive subplots make this one a must see for fans of campy horror and those who enjoyed Parker’s The Forever Dead (available on DVD from Brain Damage Films). Here’s hoping Parker’s sequel A Few Brains More: Summer of Blood will be just as enjoyable as this one.

Fistful of Brains is available on DVD from its website at www.fistfulofbrains.com The DVD contains an audio commentary, behind-the-scenes footage, a music video, and more.

Our rating (4 out of 5):

Sounds mildly amusing.

Sounds mildly amusing. Hopefully it delivers on the sleazy gore. In my opinion, if a zombie movie isn't going to be arthouse, it needs to be just straight up gruesome and totally inappropriate.
