Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning ('The Runaways', 'Twilight')

By Scott W. Perry

In the past decade, Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart grew up before our eyes on screen to become the most successful child stars of the decade. Now grown up, Fanning, 16, and Stewart, 19, enter the new decade with their most challenging and ambitious work yet in capturing the essence of the two main members of The Runaways, Cherrie Curie and Joan Jett respectively.

For Fanning, being the same age as Cherrie Curie was during the height of The Runaways success was beneficial to truly portray the accuracy on screen, and Fanning portrays the transition from innocent David Bowie fan to an out of control rock star with strong conviction...

Notable female genre writers of 2009

Women's eNews correspondent Sarah Seltzer pointed out in an article online that women authors have had a great year. She points out several genre accomplishments that we should be applauding in the literary world. Namely, Sarah Waters' novel The Little Stranger, which "uses a ghost story taking place in a mansion to explore deeper themes such as class and life after a war," and Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, which "continued to provoke debate and move copies thanks to new film adaptations." Margaret Atwood's The Year of the Flood "navigates a post-apocalyptic future with two female survivors."

American Indian writer Louise Erdrich's is noted for The Plague of Doves, the story of an unsolved murder and its consequences for residents of an Ojibwe reservation and a nearby town in North Dakota. Another mention is Suzanne Collins, who "garnered considerable attention and sales" for "Catching Fire", the second installment of The Hunger Games, her popular dystopian sci-fi series.

Stephenie Meyer's adult novel 'The Host' will be a film

The Host is the first adult novel written by Stephenie Meyer, and its about to be turned into a movie written and directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca.) Meyer reportedly turned down several previous offers on the project, but decided to go with producers Nick Wechsler, Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz after they made a significant offer and showed a strong vision for the project and a collaborative spirit. Meyer eventually said yes.

The Host is a love story set in the near future on Earth, which has been assimilated by an alien species of benevolent parasites that call themselves "Souls." One such soul, the Wanderer, is fused with a dying human named Melanie Stryder, in an attempt to locate the last pocket of surviving humans on Earth. Or whatever. I don't really understand the plot...

Catherine Hardwicke to Direct "Little Red Riding Hood" Revamp

Catherine HardwickeVariety is reporting that Catherine Hardwicke, director of last year's quite popular (if insufferable) Twilight, has signed up for a Gothic retelling of the infamous tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The new film, titled The Girl With the Red Riding Hood is said to be centered around a sort of love triangle. My guess? The werewolf, the woodsman, and of course the randy Little Red Riding Hood herself.

Stephenie Meyer gets her own comic book

To make your morning just that much more surreal and unfair, Twilight series author Stephenie Meyer is getting her own biography comic. Yes, a comic book about her, not her fiction. This is the fault of a company called Bluewater Productions, and they will release Female Force: Stephenie Meyer right before the new Twilight movie hits theaters on, November 20th, 2009.

It will most likely glamorize the life of the uber-Mormon housewife prior to her fabulous wealth and instill unrealistic expectations in young women that they, too, can get lucky and become rich off of a dumb idea. I hope there are scenes of Meyer in church every Sunday, praying the 'gay' away...

Stephen King is a prick: blasts 'Twilight' author

d'urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrStephen King, who is really a terrible writer, if you really think about it (have you ever read The Shining? It stinks) had the audacity to call the kettle (The kettle being Twilight author Stephanie Meyer) a crappy writer to USA Weekend magazine in their upcoming March issue.

He compared her to JK Rowling, the Harry Potter author, by saying, "The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good." He goes on to say...
